If you're like me, then mornings probably aren't your favourite thing. It wasn't too long ago that my alarm would go off and dread was the first thing that I felt.
Thankfully, I've been able to find a few ways to make mornings more manageable. You could even say enjoyable!
To learn how to start winning at mornings, even if they aren't your thing, keep reading. Also, don't miss my favourite oily hack at the end of this post. It always leaves me feeling ready to take on the day!
1. Use the 5 Second Rule.
This is the rule that has forever changed my mornings, and it's incredibly easy to use! When your alarm goes off and you're tempted to hit that snooze button, don't. Instead, count down "5-4-3-2-1" and launch yourself out of bed like a rocket, before you get to zero.
2. Avoid Using Your Cellphone.
Once you're actually awake, try to avoid using your phone (or computer) for at least 15-30 minutes. It can help you to be less reactive, more focused, and it can help eliminate stress caused by the chaotic morning rush! Instead, try mediation, journaling, going for a walk, having a "phone free" family breakfast, or maybe even practicing some self-care.
3. Work On Personal Development.
Take some time each morning to work on you during or after your break from your phone. Whether it's reading a book, listening to a podcast or working with a coach, do something to encourage personal growth. You'll be more focused and level headed throughout the day! A great book to check out is The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins. That's actually where I got hack number 1 from! Click here to read my review on the book if you want to learn more about it.
Bonus Oily Hack:
One of my favourite things about oils is how much they've helped to support my morning routine. To give the following hack a try, all you need to do is grab some Peppermint, carrier oil and follow these steps;
- Put a small splotch of carrier oil in the palm of your hand.
- Put 1 drop of Peppermint EO in the palm of your hand.
Rub your palms together until they start to feel warm.
Cup your hands over your face and start breathing deeply, in and out.
While breathing, focus on your senses, especially smell, touch and sound.
Do this for 30-60 seconds.
Set and intention for the day, and pick and affirmation to accompany it.
